コンコルド広場
Place de la Concorde is a large square located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, in the heart of the right (north) bank of the Seine River in Paris. The square is located between the Tuileries Gardens and the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, from which the square originates.
Designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1755, it was originally called “Place Louis XV” because of the equestrian statue of Louis XV. However, with the outbreak of the French Revolution, the equestrian statue was removed and the name was changed to “Place de la Revolution. During the French Revolution, it was also the site of the guillotine executions of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
The obelisk of the Egyptian Temple of Luxor is placed in the center of the square. It was a gift from King Muhammad Ali of Egypt of the Muhammad Ali dynasty and was brought there in 1836.
As for the animated film, “The Handbook of Vanitas,” the story is set in 19th century France and tells the story of Noe, a young vampire who travels to Paris to find the Book of Vanitas, a grimoire that dispels a curse on vampires. The Place de la Concorde is a key setting in this story. A stage version of “The Book of Vanitas” also exists and was performed again in March 2023.
コンコルド広場は、フランス・パリ8区に位置する大きな広場で、パリのセーヌ川右岸（北岸）の中心部にあります。この広場は、テュイルリー庭園と、同広場が起点となるシャンゼリゼ通りに挟まれた場所にあります。
1755年にアンジュ＝ジャック・ガブリエルによって設計され、当初はルイ15世の騎馬像が設置されていたため「ルイ15世広場」と呼ばれていました。しかし、フランス革命の勃発により騎馬像は取り払われ、名前も「革命広場」に改められました。フランス革命中には、ルイ16世やマリー・アントワネットへのギロチン刑が行われた場所でもありました。
広場の中心部にはエジプトのルクソール神殿のオベリスクが置かれています。これはムハンマド・アリー朝エジプト国王ムハンマド・アリーから贈られ、1836年に運ばれたものです。
アニメ『ヴァニタスの手記』については、19世紀のフランスを舞台に、吸血鬼の青年ノエが吸血鬼に呪いを振り撒く魔導書「ヴァニタスの書」を探すためにパリへ向かう物語です。この物語では、コンコルド広場が重要な舞台となっています。舞台版『ヴァニタスの手記』も存在し、2023年3月に再演が行われました。
